2022 Family Day
HUACHUCA GOULD’S CHAPTER Participates in Recent Family Day Event at Las Cienegas National Conservation Area
The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter recently participated in a Family Day event sponsored by the Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever on February 26th, 2022. Location for the event was the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area near Sonoita, Arizona.
This annual event offered participating youth field experience in shooting, archery, fly fishing, wildlife identification, and orienteering followed by hunting over bird dogs. Post-hunt game preparation was demonstrated, also. These skills were taught at rotating stations adjacent to base camp. Safety was always the number one priority.
Around 120 registered for the event with half of those hunting over dogs. Total attendance was much higher when family members and volunteers are included. Nine conservation groups and agencies were represented.
A falconry demonstration was presented as well.
Twelve volunteers of the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter organized and staffed the bb gun and clay pigeon shooting ranges. The Chapter provided canopies, mess tents, tables, chairs, coolers, clay pigeons, and a clay pigeon thrower, also.
Locally, Southern Arizona Quail Forever (http://www.saquailforever.com) has been very active in research and habitat projects and retaining access to public lands, all activities supported by the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter.
